Meadow Star Farms

Where we got the name:

Several years ago, as Donna was working around the meadow, she found metallic object amongst the grass.  To her, it looked like a “star”.  There was no apparent reason for the “star” to be there...it just was. You see, before it was our meadow, it was for decades a pasture for cows and calves.

What the object was really was a Dodge hood ornament.  But, because it seemed to almost magically appear out of no where...and because it resembled a star...Donna called it The Star of the Meadow.

Later on, we shortened the name and began to call our beautiful little meadow, Meadow Star. Since we’ve been expanding parts of the meadow to fruit trees and vegetable crops and Agri-tourism, we call it Meadow Star Farms.

This year, we are expanding our goji vines and fruit trees, plus we are adding German Giant radishes and a plat of sweetgrass from which to make sweetgrass braids.  We are also expanding to some lavendar, as well as a few other herbs.

Last years attempt at growing heirloom tomatoes from our homemade upside down planters was semi-fruitful (no pun intented), but wasn’t very profitable.  We are growing heirlooms for us, but we are growing tomatoes from hybrid stock this year to sell at our farmer’s market.

The Fairy Ring

Ever heard of “crop circles”?

We’ve never seen crop circles, but a strange and interesting Fairy Ring just ‘appeared” out of no where, a year ago on April 1st...no joke, either.
